Based Onesone Idea Per Writing Question
I will send everything separate but I just need help doing this assignment. It should be super easy but here are the instructions for now.
1. Closely read the poem (I will send separate)
2. Open essay 1 (I will send separate)
3. Create a document with the following:
a. ) I. Original Paragraph(s) and Description:
b.) II. Revised Paragraph:
c.) III. Reflection
4. Create an MLA formatted document and insert the following section titles, clearly labeling each:
a. ) I. Original Paragraph(s) and Description:
b.) II. Revised Paragraph(s):
c.) III. Reflection on the Revision Process:
5. Copy and paste the essay paragraph(s) you selected under the first section heading: “I. Original Paragraph and Description.”
6. Just below the copied and pasted paragraph, in complete sentences, briefly describe:
a.) The source of this segment (your Essay 2, your Discussion Two, etc)
b.) The main idea of your selected paragraph(s) excerpt
c.) A sentence or two about why you think this paragraph needs improving. Be specific.
7. In Zinsser’s “Writing English as a Second Language,” closely review his descriptions and explanations of the following pieces of key writing advice:
-
-
Active verbs instead of passive ones
-
Concrete clear, vivid, direct (Anglo-Saxon) nouns instead of abstract, vague, or potentially wordy Latin-based ones
-
One idea per sentence
-
Four principles of good writing:
-
Simplicity (do not confuse simplicity with being simplistic; one is sophisticated, the other is not)
-
Clarity
-
Brevity
-
Humanity
-
-
8. Then once again, copy and paste that same original 1-2 paragraph segment that needs improvement into the section called, “Revised Paragraph(s)” and now perform a rewrite to improve it, using Zinsser’s recommendations as your guide to revision – specifically, the four categories of advice listed above. Apply all four suggested revision strategies to your draft, reimagining and rewriting sentences wherever necessary.
9. Finally, in the assignment’s third and last section, “Reflection on the Revision Process,” evaluate and describe the rewrite you completed. Your responses to these prompts below should be in complete sentences and combined into one thoughtfully composed paragraph not a list of answers:
a.) Explain which piece of advice applies MOST to your writing generally, and explain why.
b.) Evaluate the quality of the second, now revised 1-2 paragraph segment.
c.) Explain, using 1-3 specific examples, how applying Zinsser’s advice improved your draft.
