Report States Whether Commenting On Two Classmat

When it comes to the news, they are extremely bias. When reporting they only give bits and pieces of the actual reports. They only report on the parts that will keep their ratings up. Only giving parts of the true, is still lying and creating more mayhem. With the video, labeling Chicago was wrong on all aspects. Giving the number of murders to the over all population, all though is still sad and heartbreaking, isn’t as bad as it sounds. From 20 years ago ( not all murders were reported) to the year 2013 with most if not all murders being reported, the numbers have drastically dropped, especially when given the population then and now. I believe a way to keep bias out of the news is for them to fully report the murders, not piece by piece. Everything should be laid out and be given upfront. By showing the whole picture. you let the citizens make their own conclusion instead of painting a picture for them that fits the medias agenda.

In the video, it calls Chicago the murder capital of the world, but the numbers could be skewed to make visitors and residents feel safer. The news media generally has some bias in regard to law enforcement their purpose of reporting is to sell stories, some often don’t spend the time to gather all the facts. Media outlets want to be the first to report before their counter media outlets.

As for law enforcement using numbers to under report crime stats to make their agency look better in reducing crime is something, I am sure happens. According to a report from the Sentencing Project, the entire government and media machinery are complicit in the distortion of bias in crime reporting. The report states “Whether acting on their own implicit biases or bowing to political exigency, policymakers have fused crime and race in their policy initiatives and statements, (The sentencing project n.d).

One of the best ways to reduce bias in research and reporting is to clearly define the outcome with no preconceived wanted outcome. The person doing the research should have no preference for the conclusions in favor of the research hypothesis. The researcher needs to ensure the research is accurate and transparent.
