1) DISCUSSION POST
- You have now delivered the project to your customer. The project was delivered ahead of schedule, as requested by your project sponsor, but over budget by 20%. Now, it is time to reflect on what went well and what didn’t go so well. Based on feedback throughout the course, what would you have done differently in terms of scope, resources, and / or schedule, and why?
2) PEER REVIEW #1 (BRENDA)
Good evening class and Professor,
The concert project was a great success. Tickets were sold out and the weather was excellent.
The concert was pushed up a week before the initial date because of the weather forecast and that caused us to go over budget by 20%. Our sponsors were so generous that they went over what was expected of their funding for the concert which was a wonderful surprise to cover the budget we went over.
Other things that went wrong was my client Jason became a little ill two weeks before the big concert. We should have paid more attention to his health, knowing he was constantly doing local performances and practices for the big concert. However, we quickly prescribed him some natural remedies for his healing and sent him to a nice place for R&R; afterward, he was back on track in time for majors rehearsals.
On top of that three days before the concert, we had to replace two dancers and two background singers that wanted to renegotiate their performance fee which was way out of our budget. Thanks to my decision to have backup performers in lieu of a situation like this. I had standby performers learning everything the hired performers knew, ready to step Right in for some rehearsals and Replace.
Overall my project was a success because we acted fast to the situations that arrived.
Brenda
3) PEER REVIEW #2(MELINDA)
Hello Professor and classmates,
I enjoyed listening to the key learnings Dr. Bill had in his private practice. The term learning organization is used often these days as a way to describe how a company feels about themselves. That said, in order to be a true learning organization, employees need to learn. It stands to reason that among the best learnings come from employees themselves who share experiences, best practices and stumble recovery methods that they have used to deliver a project or complete a task. Peer to peer learning is a great way to learn something in a context that you work in by a person to whom you can ask follow up questions to check your understanding. I agree when advice is to store all of electronically, as a reference library of sorts for those future projects. Staff changes more frequently now than ever before which increases the importance of having legacy information from which to draw. It just doesn’t make good business sense to have to always start from square one. I see nothing wrong with using processes that have proven success.
Have a great week!
Melinda
