Oil Painting Technique Allowed From The Renaissan

Introduction

The focus of this module is the painting, sculpture and architecture in the Flanders region of Northern Europe during the 15th century.

Also, this module will focus on the early Renaissance which occurred in Florence and the associated developments such as perspective, architectural advancements in dome construction and fresco paintings.

This module will cover Chap. 19 and Chap. 20 of the Stokstad/Cothren textbook. The requirements are:

Chap. 19 Review (Questions:

Each answer requires 2 written paragraphs and should be at least 125 words. For each answer, choose 1 work to illustrate your point (unless one is already mentioned)–one paragraph should be devoted to answering the question and the 2nd paragraph should focus on your selected work and how it illustrates your point. 5 points each

  1. Explain how the oil painting technique allowed Flemish painters to achieve unprecedented descriptive effects in their work. Support your answer by discussing one specific work in this chapter.
  2. Discuss the symbolism that viewers of the period would have comprehended in the Merode Altarpiece or the Double Portrait of Giovanni Arnolfini and his Wife.
  3. Explain the development and production of printed books; what was the impact of printed books on European society?
  4. After viewing the link, describe how van der Weyden’s painting of the Deposition is different from other paintings by his contemporaries.
