Improperly Citing Annotated Bibliographies At Lea
Specific Instructions
1) Keep looking for resources for your annotated bibliography. Find at least twenty sources
(you can include any you used for your research proposal). You don’t have to write down
what these are, but make sure you keep track of these articles and have read at least
the abstract and the introduction.
2) Once you have the articles and books you need, you need to figure out which articles
are most important to use and cite. First, figure out the ten most important articles and
then read through these articles fairly well. If you encounter methods or statistics you
do not understand, then that is fine (you won’t be expected to understand them). You
can determine the ten most important by using papers with similar research questions.
Remember: your goal is to connect articles and books together to figure out what past
scholars know your research question.
3) Once you have narrowed down your resources, prepare an annotated bibliography for
at least 10 (TEN) sources. Suggestions would be to use bullet points under EACH citation
to identify the a) research question b) theory c) methods and data d) findings e)
strengths & weaknesses of that reference. These do not have to be long paragraphs of
descriptions, merely short notes that give a clear overview of the source. This exercise
will help you prepare the mental map of the key arguments of the literature on your
topic.
Citation style and Submission
Use APA style for all of your entries. Improperly citing annotated bibliographies will
result in points being counted off. If you wish to use another writing style, do discuss it with me
before hand. My main goal is for you to be consistent and confident in the main citation style
used in your discipline (if it is not APA style)
