Court Case Anything Read Article And Summarize T
For this Discussion, please begin by reading at least 3 of the following “popular” articles, all of which are related (either directly or indirectly) to the theme of our course:
—this Century Foundation article (Links to an external site.) on “exclusionary zoning,” segregation, and the problem of concentrated poverty;
—this KNOCK article (Links to an external site.) describing the creation of a “new geography of segregation and exclusion in Los Angeles”;
—this VOX piece (Links to an external site.) on the (re)segregation of schools in the U.S.;
—this Konkret Media article (Links to an external site.) on the criminalization of poverty in Los Angeles;
—this KCET report (Links to an external site.) on the aftereffects of the 2008 housing crisis, which disproportionately affected people of color.
Once you’ve read these articles, choose something from one of them that stood out or interested you. This could be a keyword from the article, a problem the article discussed, a policy or law that was mentioned, a court case…anything. Next, plug this keyword, term, or phrase into Google and find a different “popular” article—i.e., an article from a source like the New York Times, the Atlantic Monthly, Curbed LA, the LA Times, the Guardian, NPR, etc.—that deals with this keyword or a related subject. (Side note: it might be a good idea to add the name of a city to your Google search. I.e., you could search “quality of life policing New York” or “school segregation Los Angeles” or “gentrification San Francisco” or “foreclosure crisis Detroit” or something else.) Read the article and then write a brief, 8 sentence summary of it. Make sure that you describe the central problem that your article addresses as clearly as possible! Then post the link to the article as well as your summary below.
