Defining Happiness

. The purpose of this essay is to –

investigate and propose a definition of happiness, as explained by sources and as you understand it, that is –

specific to the types of happiness (pleasant life, good life, meaningful life) – and –

specific to the “Keys of Well Being” (one or more) that is/are central to creating the pleasant, good, or meaningful life.

You will choose only one type of happiness and one to three Keys to Well-Being important to achieving that type of happiness

For this essay, you’ll brainstorm, examine, and create a definition of happiness based on the following elements in a logically composed 4 pages minimum about 4.5 would be perfect

1. The type of happiness you want to focus on. To help your reader understand what you mean by this, include –

  • the name of the type of happiness (pleasant, good, meaningful)
  • a description or definition of that type
  • the name of your source for this information and their profession (google to find out).
  • an explanation of why it is important for you and perhaps others to pursue or achieve this type of happiness
  • include evidence that supports this importance (evidence can include personal experience, can be based on something you know, or can be from one of our sources).

2. The Key or Keys of Well-Being you think most contribute to the type of happiness you’re focused on in #1.

  • For each Key, include –
  • the name of the Key
  • a description or definition of that Key or Keys
  • the name of your source for this information
  • an explanation of how each Key you’ve selected relates to and can best support the type of happiness you’re focusing on
  • include evidence that demonstrates how the Key or Keys you’ve selected improve the type of happiness you’re focused on (evidence can include personal experience, can be based on something you know, or can be from one of our sources).
  • include the kinds of practices one can perform to improve the Key and therefore the type of happiness.

3. Concerns you have or a reader is likely to have with some aspect of what you’ve written. Imagine what a naysayer or skeptic might think or say. How would you respond?

4. Questions you have that you’d like to learn more about. Brainstorm and think about this.
