Human Services Field Must Week 4 Discussion 2

Human Services Field Must Week 4 Discussion 2

As we recall from Chapter 6 of the Woodside and McClam (2019) text, human services are provided in many ways. In this discussion:

  • Explain the service delivery human service model and the worker’s role in solving problems.
  • Distinguish among the three models discussed in the text. How are the medical and public health models different from the human service model?
  • Lastly, read the Susan and Ted case study in the Human Service Model section of Chapter 6 in the course text and explain how the human service model can address the circumstances presented. Consider the significance of problem identification, client strengths, context, and culture.

Guided Response: Review several of your classmates’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful and interactive discourse in this discussion.

What insights did you gain from reviewing your peers’ discussion posts? Comment on any differences between your classmates’ thoughts and your own. What additional views would you share about service delivery? What suggestions might you make around the significance of problem identification, client strengths, context, and culture? Continue to monitor the discussion forum until Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Hey everyone,

  • An individual who works in the human services field must possess strong communication skills, as well as the ability to manage their time well, in order to be able to effectively serve their customers. The human service worker must be able to build a relationship with the client so that their concerns may be shared and they and the client can work together. Author Woodside and McClam (2019) claim that the “human service model” is concerned with the individual’s interaction with the environment, highlighting the necessity for balance between the two. A human service model’s primary responsibilities include fulfilling human needs, focusing on both preventative and remedial services. This methodology aims to address issues that may or may not have arisen by balancing the environment and the customer. Whether it’s finding a solution or figuring out what’s causing the problem. This paradigm aids in the process of issue solving and increases the individual’s well-being and quality of life.
  • In the medical health model, mental disorders are seen as diseases or illnesses that impair a person’s ability to perform, as explained in the text. This is an unfortunate misunderstanding. Unfortunately, this is still the case for some individuals. It can also be used to observe the individual seeking assistance and determine whether they are seeking assistance with a condition or illness. Groups in society that were gathered around distinct geographic areas, problem types, or other specific features were the focus of this paradigm. This gave the model a new perspective on mental illness, one that blamed it on society or the environment. the duo of McClam and Woodside (2019).
  • Susan and Ted come from entirely different backgrounds, both culturally and socioeconomically. When Susan was a child, her family had a strong belief in the need for love and support. In contrast, Ted hails from a distant family where he didn’t receive any help. Because of this, their relationship is in the midst of a difficult patch. This is due to the fact that their expectations aren’t being met, and as a result, their marriage is in a precarious position. Because of this, they have been able to receive assistance from the human service model. The model is able to perceive that their surroundings are unhappily and unhealthily harmful for them. So the model advises that one of them should be removed temporarily to fix some of their faults. They may focus on the issues at hand instead of the problem and their marriage thanks to this solution.
