5 1878 250 Word Discussion Response Week 2 Writ

Responses should be a minimum of 250 words and include direct questions. You may challenge, support or supplement another student’s answer using the terms, concepts and theories from the required readings. Also, do not be afraid to respectfully disagree where you feel appropriate; as this should be part of your analysis process at this academic level.

Please respond to Troy:

his is the part of the research processes that I have always struggled with. Deciding on a topic and moving forward, with that topic and framing it in a way that makes sense to get my ideas across in an academic manner. The lesson this week did help with explaining how to go about choosing a topic, first by picking a topic that interest me, which should have been a no brainer. Which is why I am going to stick with the topic of Terrorism. A long with using the course materials I found an article that discussed how to form a good research question. The article talked about being able to identify a good research question by looking at issues that would address major social problems or a scientific mystery (Zhu, 2015).

In todays climate the issue of terrorism being either domestic or international is a social problem that is an issue for every country around the world. Especially, for the United States being a world leader with so much influence around the world how our country handles this issue both at home and abroad sets a bench mark to followed by all other nations. Now knowing that the discussion of Terrorism is a very broad topic I want to only focus on one aspect of terrorism, and for me that is the domestic side of terrorism and how it affects the climate here in the United States.

The seconded part of this process is from the research question you develop a hypothesis to guided your research to either prove or disprove your hypothesis based off of data collected during the research process. In an article I found explaining what a hypothesis does said a research hypothesis compares what is observed in the data to what would be expected if the hypothesis is true. The goal of hypothesis testing is to measure the consistency of the observed data with the hypothesis (Nizamuddin, 2017). And, from what I have put together so far in my preliminary research and, what I have learned from past experience I feel that domestic terrorism has a lot of data to be able to put together a paper on the dangers of domestic terrorism and how our society is a breading ground for disenfranchised group and or individuals to rebel against societal norms and cause panic and destruction.

Difficulties with choosing a research question and a hypothesis for me is finding a topic that interest me. And for me terrorism is a huge interest especially domestic terrorism. I do have a goal to work in some aspect of Homeland security dealing with this issue. So I feel this will help me greatly as I work to put this research together.
