Discussion: Public Health, Cultural Competence, and Emergency Response
You are responsible for revising an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for your city to include specific provisions that address racial and cultural diversity relative to health, dietary, and other racially/culturally based practices. Your population is diverse, consisting of Jewish, Muslim, Asian, and Haitian Creole.
1. How would you accommodate for those differences in your ERP?
2. Go to “Think Cultural Health” website and look up your State. Is cultural competency training mandatory? Would that make a difference in your ERP?
