Challenges in the Next Steps:

For
me, some of the primary challenges that present for the next steps of
the dissertation process include time and distraction. I don’t believe
that I would have felt this was pre-pandemic, however, multiple things
have changed since this began. I have three kids, three and under and
daycare is limited during the summer for them because of the changes in
regulations. My kids are my primary obligation outside of obtaining my
PhD.

Personally,
I’m also pretty concerned with my history of procrastination. The fact
that I won’t have an 11-week course to look at each week and figure out
how to plan accordingly can allow for procrastination to creep back in.

Support and Ideas:

Support
for this next step will be people that I have met through these
courses, current colleagues, and family. I have been able to gain
friendships through this program and have been able to bounce ideas and
papers off from people which has done nothing but provide success. My
current colleagues are also all very aware of the life trajectory that I
am on and have been able to share stories of obtaining their PhD as
well as information about the dissertation process.

In
regard to my procrastination problem, the biggest support is a to-do
list that I currently rely on every week. This to-do list keeps me on
track and keeps me focused. I’m excited to develop these to-do lists
with the chair of my dissertation.

Questions in the Next Steps:

The
primary question that I have for the next steps is, do we still work
through an 11-week process? Or, is it all just wide open for us to work?
