Others Depend Upon Everyone Communication Class S

In a communication class, your personal success and the success of others depend upon everyone attending class and participating in both synchronous and asynchronous community building activities. As such, active engagement and participation is a course expectation and requirement.

You have an opportunity to make an argument for the participation grade (worth up to 40 points) you believe you have earned in this class. Questions for you to consider as you make your argument are: Did you regularly come to class prepared to discuss the material (e.g., did you read and think about the assigned chapter prior to coming to class?)?, did you regularly make meaningful contributions to class discussions?, were you an active participant in your breakout rooms?, were you someone your classmates could look to as a role model?, did you meet with the professor at least once this semester?, were you an active participant on Canvas? You can also refer to page 3 on the course syllabus “tips for success” and page 4 “how can we make the most of our time together” for additional ideas to address. I can, and will, adjust your grade (up or down) if your argument is inaccurate or poorly developed, so be sure to make a strong case for yourself.

Award yourself points according to the following grades/standards and present your argument for the points:

A (Superior–you have gone above and beyond the minimum expected), award yourself a specific number between 36-40 points.

B (Excellent–you have done more than the minimum expected) award yourself between 32 and 35.5 points.

C (Good/Average–you are meeting the minimum/average of what is expected) award yourself between 28 and 31.5 points.

D (Poor–you are falling short of the minimum expected) award yourself between 24 and 27.5 points.

F (Failing–you have fallen far short of the minimum expected) award yourself between 0 and 27 points.
