Nuanced Thesis Like Online Pros And Cons Of Onlin
my topic is on the pros and cons of online education.
You will be trying to persuasively argue for your evaluation of the topic (which might be a nuanced thesis like online education is good in some ways, but bad in others).
Directions: Using your topic from last week, we’re going to develop some evaluative criteria for the subject of your upcoming evaluative essay.
As a discussion post, do the following:
1.) Develop five questions to serve as criteria for your evaluation. Think in terms criteria for evaluation that is fair for the subject and matches the genre.
For example, if I were to evaluate the horror film It, I would try to think of pieces of that criteria make for a good horror movie. I might come up with the following research questions:
– Is the movie scary?
– Are their convincing performances from the lead actors?
– Does the cinematography add to the sense of dread?
– Does the music help to build a frightening atmosphere?
– Is the pacing too fast or too slow?
2.) From the criteria you developed in step 1, select the three criteria questions that are most important to evaluating your topic. Write a few sentences (1-3) for each piece of criteria explaining why it is so important to evaluating the subject.
Example: Is the movie scary? — This piece of criteria is absolutely vital to a horror movie because we go to see these films to be scared. Most horror movies at least have jump scares or frightening imagery, but the most effective movies leave a lingering sense of dread that lasts long after you’ve left the theater.
3.) Take the criteria that you developed for step 2 and now use it to judge your subject. Write 100 words per piece of criteria (approximately 300+ words total) and try to analyze, in detail, whether your subject fits or does not fit the criteria. Use evidence to try to support your evaluation.
Example – Is the movie scary? The movie It is tremendously scary with many moments of pure dread. One great example is when Pennywise… (etc)
