Vocabulary
Media/Medium
The materials and tools used by the artist to create a work of art. Medium can refer to both to the type of art (e.g. painting, sculpture, printmaking), as well as the materials an artwork is made from. For example a sculpture in the medium of bronze or marble; a painting in the medium of oil paint on canvas, or watercolour on paper; a drawing in the medium of pencil or crayon; a print in the medium of etching or lithography .In modern art new media in both senses have appeared. Modern artists have established that art can be made of absolutely any material, so the media of modern art, in that sense, have ranged from found or appropriated objects and materials of all kinds, to the artist’s own body. Many modern works are made from a variety of such things and the term mixed media has had to be coined to take account of this. This expansion of media, in the sense of materials, has given rise to new media in the overarching sense of a type of art. For example, assemblage , installation and performance are all three-dimensional art forms sufficiently distinct from traditional sculpture to become considered new media in themselves.
ASSEMBLAGE
Assemblage is art that is made by assembling disparate elements – often everyday objects – scavenged by the artist or bought specially
Installation Art
The term installation art is used to describe large-scale, mixed-media constructions, often designed for a specific place or for a temporary period of time
PERFORMANCE ART
Artworks that are created through actions performed by the artist or other participants, which may be live or recorded, spontaneous or scripted
Installation Art
The term installation art is used to describe large-scale, mixed-media constructions, often designed for a specific place or for a temporary period of time
Subject matter
This term, in a descriptive style of art, refers to the persons or things represented in a work. In abstract and nonobjective forms of art, it refers to the basic character of all the visual signs employed by the artist. In this case, it has little to do with anything as experienced in the natural environment.
Content
The essential meaning, significance, or aesthetic value of an art form. It refers to the sensory, psychological or emotional properties that one tends to “feel” in a work of art as opposed to the perception of mere descriptive aspects.
