You are expected to work alone. Answer the following two questions. As a guide,
your questions may vary in length but will generally require a long paragraph (no more than
~300 words). In some instances, you may be asked to provide a list. For these questions, it is OK
to create a numbered or bulleted list with the appropriate description for each (instead of writing
in paragraph form). Points will be deducted for plagiarism, grammar, punctuation, and spelling
errors.
1. Imagine that you are a clinical researcher who studies depression. In your own
words, define and provide an example of both basic research and applied
research that you might conduct. (Hint: make sure to clearly identify your
independent and dependent variables. Are they measured or manipulated?)
2. Use your applied research example from above. In your own words, name and
define the four validities used to interrogate claims made from this study
