Biases Assessment Reflection

"The Implicit Association Test (IAT) measures attitudes and beliefs that people may be unwilling or unable to report. The IAT may be especially interesting if it shows that you have an implicit attitude that you did not know about. For example, you may believe that women and men should be equally associated with science, but your automatic associations could show that you (like many others) associate men with science more than you associate women with science" (implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/eduction).

The purpose of this assignment is to increase our awareness of implicit biases that become hidden traps in making ethical decisions.

Go to the website provided below and choose one Implicit Assessment Tests to take.  Review your results and then write a one to two page reflection paper answering the following:

1.  Before taking the test, write a paragraph explaining why you choose that test and what you think it will say about your bias in that area.

2.  What did your results say about your implicit biases related to that category?

3.  What was your response to the results?

4.  In ways do you plan to address this bias?
