Literature Review

Literature Review Assignment Instructions

Overview

To ensure you are basing your healthcare management practice and/or clinical practice on the most current evidence of best practices, it is important to use clinical guidelines, as well as conduct a review of literature in the form of current peer-reviewed journal articles. In this assignment, you will be choosing a clinical guideline from one of the sites identified in the below instructions, identifying recommendations from the guideline, and finding four research articles that support the recommendations in the guideline. You will also be identifying the purpose, results, method, design, and other components of each research article. Later in the term, you will be determining the level of evidence for each of the four research articles in order to identify the reliability of the research in each study.

Instructions

1.     You will select ONE Clinical Guideline from one of these sites:

·      National Institute of Health (NIH): National Center for Complementary & Integrative Health: https://nccih.nih.gov/health/providers/clinicalpractice.htm

o   Click on the link for each guideline and read through them to decide which one to use. Make certain it is an actual clinical guideline. Some links are not to guidelines.

·      American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP): https://www.aafp.org/patient-care/browse/type.tag-clinical-practice-guidelines.html

o   Click on the topic of interest. Sometimes there is more than one clinical guideline in each topic. Choose only one. Be sure to click on “Read full recommendations”.

·      American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP): https://www.aanp.org/education/169-education/obesity-accordion/1721-clinical-practice-guidelines

2.     You will read through the guideline to identify the recommendations/statements for patient care covered in the guideline. You will list all recommendations, up to six of them.

3.     Search in the LUO Jerry Falwell Library or other reputable sites for 4 RESEARCH journal articles (published within past 10 yrs. for this assignment) that support and show research for some of the various recommendations/statements covered in the guideline you chose.
