Instructions

After watching the documentary Race: The Power of an Illusion, part 2 (found in the Foundations folder) and part 3 (found in the Chapter 3 & 4 folder) as well as Ava DuVernay’s documentary 13th (also found in the Chapter 3 & 4 folder), you will create a discussion post titled "Politics of Race" and respond to the following prompt:

Defend or argue against the following statement, citing historical and contemporary evidence to support your perspective:

Race is a social construction that has had social, political, and economic consequences that persist in American society today.

This assignment cannot be completed without watching the three documentaries. You must address the prompt or you will not get credit for the assignment. You must have at least two specific references to each of the three documentaries, for a total of six specific references to the documentaries (with citations) and two academic sources (with citations) to support your argument. Your sources must come from academic textbooks and articles from academic journals. Please do not use Wikipedia, the dictionary, or opinion pieces as they are not considered academic sources. You are required to write a minimum of 500 words, not including the works cited.

Be sure to include the work count at the end of your post (not including the works cited). You must cite all of your sources (including each of the documentaries) and include a comprehensive works cited/bibliography. You may use APA or MLA style (Links to an external site.).
