Where love (or any emotion) is present, its opposite is usually lurking nearby–earthly life being one of contrasts.
These contrasting states (in our case, love and hate) are readily observed in many of Shakespeare’s works. Contrasts are clearly on view in his tragic love drama Romeo and Juliet. Those emotions are so accessible, in part, because we view through them through the commonly-experienced lens of young love.
