Directions
Email can be used for both informal and formal messages. Review the chart below regarding when informal email and formal email messages are appropriate.
For this assignment, students will develop a formal email, addressed to the instructor of your course. Your email will be an introduction email. The email should include the following information:
A description of yourself in a professional and personal capacity
Important information regarding your motivation to seek a degree
Your goals for this class
The email should use formal formatting (salutation, closing, recipient’s name, accurate subject line). A minimum of three paragraphs with at least three complete sentences per paragraph should be provided. The email should include no more than four paragraphs. Use the Three-Step Writing Process detailed in Chapter 4 to develop an effective formal email. Take note of Figure 5.4 Sentence Topic to view an example of an effective email message.
Note: You are not sending an email to your instructor. You are creating a formal email, addressed to your instructor, and submitting it as an attachment for grading. The email should be written in a Word document and submitted as an attachment.
