33 Ptsminimally Used Correct V For Vendetta And A

ESSAY #2: FORMAT

Movie: Vendetta for Vendetta

For this essay I am going to ask you THREE essay questions; each should be answered in at least THREE fully developed paragraphs. This essay will have a body of nine fully- developed paragraphs, plus an introduction and conclusion paragraphs. THUS, THE ESSAY SHOULD BE ELEVEN [11] PARAGRAPHS TOTAL – NO MORE, NO LESS.

THERE IS NO NEED TO SUMMARIZE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FILM IN THESE PARAGRAPHS. GET RIGHT TO YOUR RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION.

YOU MAY HAVE TO DEVOTE TWO PARAGRAPHS FOR ONE OF THE FILMS AND ONE FOR THE OTHER. SEE THE TOPIC BELOW. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FORMAT OF THE ESSAY, PLEASE ASK ME.

You should use an essay format for with a short introduction and conclusion. You do not need to cite any sources for this essay. Consider the theories I have presented to you as common knowledge, as is the film. You do have to cite direct quotes from the film. Google – how to cite a film in APA – and you will see models.

You may cite any of the sources in the course. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SOURCES FROM THE INTERNET. If you want to cite any of my PowerPoint lectures, look in the module for a graphic on citing slides from a PowerPoint. If you want to cite another’s ideas – Brian Godaway’s on Postmodern Pagan Myth, for examples, please cite that correctly. AGAIN, YOU DO NOT NEED TO CITE ANYTHING FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT. However, if you do, you must do it correctly and have a references page.

TOPIC:

Essentially the essay is this. I want you to look at the three areas of theory in the course: What is the hero myth? What makes a dystopia? And what is instrumental reason from The Dialectic of Enlightenment. I want you then to examine these or show how they are visible in JUST TWO FILMS – Avatar and V for Vendetta.

For the first question; answer in three paragraphs: An essential point of the Dialectic of Enlightenment is the effect of a loss of myth stemming from objective thinking and reason from the Enlightenment. Review the hero myth lecture. Pay close attention to slides six through ten. The myth really involves a process of change in a person. See the stages of that process and explain how they specifically apply to two of the three following characters: Jake Sully from Avatar, and V and / or Evey Hammond from V for Vendetta.

AGAIN, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THERE IS NO NEED TO SUMMARIZE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FILM. GET RIGHT TO YOUR RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION. YOU MAY HAVE TO DEVOTE TWO PARAGRAPHS FOR ONE OF THE FILMS AND ONE FOR THE OTHER.

For the second question; answer in three paragraphs: The notion of the possibility of utopia for civilization was at least accepted in the Enlightenment. Yet, what the worlds of Avatar and V for Vendetta reveal is in ways the opposite: the dystopia. A dystopian world in fiction has distinct characteristics. Review slides 30 through 41 in that lecture. Which characteristics fit the worlds of Avatar and V for Vendetta? Your response should NOT include all of characteristics by any means. Focus on two or three but no more. You may use different characteristics for each film.

Lastly for the third question; answer in three paragraphs: probably the single most important concept in the course is the reversal of “reason” as a force for progress as described by the Enlightenment thinkers. This concept is “instrumental reason,” – the corruption of reason according to Adorno and Horkheimer in the Dialectic of Enlightenment. Review slides 8 through 19 in that lecture. See Weber’s definition and consider the following: If instrumental reason is a masking of the truth to reach an end or goal for whatever purpose or need a person, culture, political party, group or movement desires, how do you see instrumental reason in the stated goals of the Resources Development Administration (RDA) corporation in Avatar and the Norsefire Party in V for Vendetta. In other words how do these groups use “instrumental rationality” in these films?

Again, I am very aware of how much is on the Internet about these films. Please no plagiarism issues! Please give me your ideas; these will give you a much higher grade than those of others. I am going to set up the exam for anti-plagiarism software. Don’t go there.

And please write well, be grammatical; use Grammarly in library.

This essay must be in APA format; try not to lose points for that
