Question 1:
Business speakers don’t always have the luxury of complete confidence in the material they have to present. For instance, sales forecasts for new products are notoriously difficult to make because they depend on so many factors in the marketplace. If you were presenting a forecast that was the best available answer but not one that you had much confidence in, should you still follow the guidelines presented in your readings for appearing confident in front of your audience? Explain your answer. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.

If you were presenting a forecast that was the best available answer but not one that you had much confidence in, should you still follow the guidelines presented in your readings for appearing confident in front of your audience?
I have to have confidence in anything I present to others. I might have to give information that not every one favors or wants to sit there and listen too. So it is vital that I push through and follow the guidelines for presenting information to an audience. Personally for me, I hate public speaking and tend it get nervous because I want everything to be perfect when presenting information to others. According to Bovee and Thill (2013, Sec. 16.3), ” Stop worrying about being perfect. Successful speakers focus on making an authentic connection with their listeners, rather than on trying to deliver a note-perfect presentation.” Another thing I would focus on is being comfortable and maintaining eye contact. It is vital to be engaged with the audience and being comfortable while maintaining eye contact will help. When it comes to answering questions, it is important that in some shape or form they get answered.

If I was presenting a product that I was not knowledgably about or confident in there are some things I would try and research a few things to help me out. First I would look at the company and their brand, that is where my confidence would lie. If the company has always performed, then I would add to the presentation to boosts the audience’s confidence. If the company was an underperformer I would stick to the guidelines only because I am not an expert and would not want to under sell the product’s concept. The only example I could reflect on was where we were deploying to Romania and there weren’t any units there to pull information from. I basically told them to call on their experience and trust their leadership and their experience. That’s is why I would use the company and their experience. Now the other thing is look for competitive products, there isn’t a concept out there that you can’t find at least a bit of information from competitors. Then I would find the selling aspects from the competitors and try and focus on that during the sales forecast. The purpose of most business presentations is to inform or persuade. Knowing your audience’s state of mind will help you adjust both your message and your delivery. (Thill 476). I think these are the two most important aspects when trying to form a presentation.

Advice for giving effective online presentations is given in Chapter 16 of your text. Read the list and determine what would be the hardest to adhere to or control. What would be the easiest? Why is this so? Provide a practical real world example. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.

Read the list and determine what would be the hardest to adhere to or control.
In my opinion, the hardest thing to adhere to would be to rehearse using a live system. Bovee &Thill (2016) suggests that you practice with at least one test viewer so you’re comfortable using the system (Chp 16.4). However, from a military perspective, that is hard to do. I have participated in many VTC’s (Video Teleconferences) and have never had the opportunity to practice live prior to the actual presentation. However, usually we used charts/slides when on a VTC so the audience does have a chance to familiarize themselves with the material being presented.
What would be the easiest?
I think the easiest thing to adhere to would be allowing plenty of time for everyone to get connected. It is pretty simple to build extra time into your schedule to ensure that everyone is connected and ready to start (Bovee &Thill, 2016). Once again, I would like to go back to the use of a VTC. Once the VTC has been setup, you can adjust the amount of time for others to connect. As a rule of thumb, we allot one hour for connectivity. However, while an hour is the standard we can also adjust that time on the fly if the situation dictates. For instance, we were hosting a two hour VTC a few weeks ago and an individual called to say that he would be over an hour late but wanted to participate in the last hour. We were able to adjust the connect time so that he was able to dial in up until the last 30 minutes.
I understand that a VTC is not exactly the same as an online presentation but I believe they present the same challenges and the same techniques apply as well. I have never had to participate in an online presentation so I thought I would discuss something I have used in my career.

The hardest part of the presentation to adhere to would be to ask for feedback frequently. Asking for feedback during an online presentation can be very challenging and can actually take up more time in my opinion. Working for the hospital my audience consist of a variety of team members which could include doctors and I value everyone’s time. When I start off the presentation I will say that I value and appreciate everyone’s time and so that we can get through this presentation in a timely manner I ask those who have questions to please write them down and I will answer them at the end. By doing this, it will allow those who do not have any questions or concerns to continue their day and those who do, to ask questions and not feel rushed.
The easiest part would be allowing plenty of time for everyone to get connected and familiar with the screen they are viewing. According to Bovee, C. L., & Thill, J. V. (2016), “Build extra time into your schedule to ensure that everyone is connected and ready to start”(Sec. 16.4). I am usually logged on 15 minutes early to allow others to get connected and familiar. Once the meeting has started I will ask if there is anyone that cannot hear me or see my screen to please send me an instant message. It has been a few occasions here and there where I have had issues and it’s usually those utilizing the conference service for the first time. They will call in, but forget to click on the link inside the meeting request which will allow them to see the screen. I would walk them through the steps and then the meeting will begin.

The final assignment for this course is a Business Proposal. The purpose of the Business Proposal is for you to culminate the learning achieved in the course by demonstrating understanding of the reading assignments, class discussions, your own research, as well as the implications of new knowledge. The Business Proposal represents 25% of the overall course grade.
Develop a Business Proposal based on your topic selection from the Week Three assignment. Your paper must be six- to seven -pages in length (not including the title page, executive summary (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., and reference pages), formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., and should demonstrate an understanding of the reading assignments, class discussions, your own research, as well as the implications of new knowledge.
Focus of the Business Proposal
You will develop a business proposal persuading the senior management of your organization to initiate a change in processes, procedures, products, people, or structure based on events that are currently happening in your business environment (you may use a past experience). The paper must use at least three scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook, and at least one from the Ashford University Library.
You will include an executive summary of your proposal for your CEO. Think of this as the coversheet of the proposal.
In addition to the written portion of this assignment, you must submit a PowerPoint presentation on your proposal. The presentation must include at least five slides and no more than 10 slides. The content must provide key information from the proposal. Your target audience will be your CEOs, managers, and co-workers. The presentation must look professional.

Must be six to seven double-spaced pages in length (not including the title and reference pages), and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.

Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
