Pick one of the following companies that you will create an information systems plan for.

  • An accounting firm with 10 accountants serving small businesses
  • An online auction site for high-end consumer items, such as designer purses and accessories, designer clothing, designer home decorations, etc.
  • A chain of five locally operated shops (ex. Restaurants, hotels, retail, auto repair shops, etc.)
  • A home security company helping homeowners in the Bay Area to secure their homes with alarm and video monitoring systems
  • Suggest your own!

Information Technology Requirements

Not all businesses need a full array of information technologies to run their business. However, most businesses use information systems in various areas regardless of their size.

Describe the information technology needs including costs of each category in your company. Address the following needs:

  • Hardware Requirements
  • Databases
  • Cloud Services
  • CRMs and/or ERPs
  • Social Media
  • Applications (operating systems, software applications, SaaS, etc.)
  • Budget (this is only your IT Budget, not your company’s entire budget)

Explain the business processes that your company will use. Illustrate your business process in a flow chart or table and explain relationships of each step.

Which IS tasks, if any, will you outsource and which ones will you manage in-house and why? Include any activities such as software/app development, IT networks, etc.
