0 Ptsno Marksnot Nearly 500600 Words Review For A
Write a 500-600 word review of a jazz album of your choice in journalistic style (duke ellington, charlie brown, billie holiday, etc)
THE ALBUM: This should be an actual album released by an actual jazz artist, rather than a compilation album or box set released by a record company. You can review a classic jazz record, or a more modern one, whatever piques your interest. If there’s any question as to whether your album qualifies, just ask!
RESOURCES: Check out the newspaper articles of Paul de Barros, Ben Ratliff, or Nate Chinen for a general taste of the style you should use. The magazines Downbeat and Jazz Times include a lot of album reviews with each publication as well, though yours should be longer and more detailed than any of them.
FORMAT: The paper should be written in a journalistic style, using the inverted pyramid (Links to an external site.)structure. Don’t be afraid to state your opinions boldly, just be sure to be detailed about it. Music is subjective, and if you decide you like an album that everyone else hates, or vice versa, that’s fine.
